I will never forget Ivan. He had a dog larger than him named Cisco. We would swap Superman and Batman comic books. All he talked about was joining the Marines, and he quit school to make his dream come true. He came home on leave, heading to Da' Nam and we talked a long time at Easter's. I went to his funeral and he had wrote a letter to Rev. Burton saying that he had accepted Christ in the fields of Viet Nam. Ivan paid the supreme price for something so many of us take for granted; freedom!
My Brother, our paths will cross again. You will be a Bulldog forever!!

So amazing, I always called him Ivan and he would say it is Iran. He was right!! So odd his Funeral was less than two weeks from our graduation. If he had not quit school, he would have been with us that night. God knows best!!

Ivan Brown was my first memory of losses from the Vietnam era and I can rememeber touching his name printed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC, a proud warm feeling passed over me knowing he as a neighbor, classmate and friend, that fought for  our freedom. Til we meet again Ivan, thank you.

Ivan and Jerome Carter left for the USMC together from the Ponce De Leon Hotel.  They rode together in a Marine Corps car to Richmond and then were bussed to Paris Island.  They went through basic and AIT together.  They were home together on leave before going to Vietnam.  They were killed a month a part.  The thing I remember about Ivan's funeral was that he requested that a Supreme's song be played over the intercom.

I can't remember the song but it was the first time I was in the Hamlar-Curtis area and R&B - - not somber music - - was being played.  Very cool!  I thought, "only Ivan"!!

I remember how he was so talented in whatever he did! Artist , athelete, loyal true friend, smart, protective of his family especially his sisters. He had a spot in the top of his head so hard! Nobody wanted him to butt you. I  saw him butt Joe Neamo one time.. fight over!
