Janie Walton (Taylor) VIEW PROFILE

Janie Everlena Taylor, 62, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, after fighting a long hard battle with cancer. She was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., on April 25, 1951. She became a native of Roanoke, Virginia at a very young age. She graduated from Lucy Addison High School in 1969, and pursued her LPN license. She was married to Jesse Everette Taylor Jr. on December 15, 1968. She was preceded by him in death on December 14, 1992.
During her life she had many accomplishments. She was the former First Lady of Zion Hill Baptist Church of Radford, Va., as well as Antioch Baptist Church of Coleman Falls, Va. Janie started as an LPN at the Salem VA Medical Center in 1983, where she just celebrated her 13th Anniversary this year.
Throughout her entire life, she has been a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she originally began teaching Sunday School at the age of 12. She was an esteemed member of the Deaconess Board as well as the Usher Board, Nurses Association and was also honored enough to be listed as one of the Mothers of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Veora R. Nelms (Sally); and her father, David Nelms.
She went to prepare a place for her children, Yvette A. Taylor Terry (Robert (Boo) Terry), Jesse Everette Taylor Jr. III (CaSaundra Swain) and Sheara N. Brown-Taylor. She is survived by her grandchildren, Tiana Saunders, Daequan J. Taylor, Jazmine Motley, Justice Saunders, Na'Aousha Campbell, Jamil Everette Taylor and Robert Elijah Swain; and her great- grandchild, Sincere Taylor; and her two brothers, Henry Walton and Thomas Nelms.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Cedric Malone officiating. Interment will be held in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church.
