Mary Elizabeth Nance Stuart, a member of the Lucy Addison High School Class of 1969, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Mary was born in Bedford, Va and was preceeded in death by her mother, Sarah Price and grandfather Joseph Nance. Mary worked for the City of Roanoke at the Main Branch Library and Gainsboro Library until her Retirement. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sharvon Stuart, sister Gertrude Bucker(Ralph), brothers, Robert Nance(Diane) and Raymond Nance(Angela). A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Serenty Funeral Home.

To the family of Mary Nance Stuart

We the members of the Lucy Addison Class of 1969 pause to offer our prayers of comfort and support as you celebrate the life of Mary. We share a bond with this family for Mary was also in our family. Anytime you've known someone for six or seven decades you're family.

Looking back at the way we had to face and overcome segregation while being positive to advance in life made us stronger. Mary always had such bright eyes and a big smile, which would easily lead one to believe that she was a quiet person. Being around her one would quickly realize that this wasn't true for she could get a word in (she could talk).

Mary decided to spend her career working in libraries, greeting people with a big smile and offering a hand to help them. Someone much greater than you or I noticed her, for Someone greeted her last Saturday with a big smile and extended THE HAND. She got help and assistance from her loved ones who have already gone home. No more going through index cards and files searching for books because Mary found her name written in the Book of Life.

Family, we want you to know that Mary has just gone on the other side of the door, with our Lord and Savior is standing by the door. Fear not for your life will give you the key to the door where Mary awaits. Be patient!
